Dr. Winfried Veil (45) studied law at the University of Mainz, Germany. He took his doctor’s degree at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer with a thesis on the democratic deficit within the European Union and possible remedies by direct democracy. From 2001 to 2010 he was working as a lawyer in several international law firms specializing in commercial administrative law. Since 2010 Winfried Veil is working for the Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany where in the beginning he was competent for labour migration law. Since 2013 he has been working for the Project Group on Data Protection Reform in Germany and Europe which was negotiating the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation on behalf of Germany. At present Winfried Veil is competent for general and legal IT and digitization issues and for data policy.
