Dr. Imke Sommer is the Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of the federal state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.

Before the turn of the millennium she passed the two german judicial state exams and wrote her thesis about feministical theory of law.

After nearly 10 years of work als legal advisor of the Senator for Finances of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen in 2009 she was elected the Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of the federal state Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and re-elected in 2017. In 2013 she was chairwoman of the Conference of the Independent Federal and State Data Protection Supervisory Authorities of Germany.

Together with Wolfgang Däubler, Peter Wedde and Thilo Weichert she comments the General Data Protection Rule (second edition to be published).
