360° Data Protection: Bitkom Privacy Conference 2025 live at Futurium Berlin for the first time

  • Dr Des Hogan, Meike Kamp and Michael McGrath at the Bitkom Privacy Conference on 10 and 11 September 2025
  • Regulatory challenges and practical data strategies in focus

Berlin, 21 August 2025. A representative survey commissioned by Bitkom shows: in 63 per cent of German companies, innovative projects have either failed or never been initiated over the past 12 months due to data protection requirements. Seventy per cent regard the increasing data protection workload as an obstacle to digitalisation.

This is where the Bitkom Privacy Conference on 10 and 11 September 2025 comes in. The event brings together experts from data protection authorities, international companies, SMEs and leading start-ups to discuss current developments, legal frameworks and practical data protection strategies. The first day of the event will take place live at Futurium Berlin. On the second day, the conference will be streamed online free of charge.

High-profile speakers from Germany and Europe

The highlight speakers at this year’s Privacy Conference include leading figures in both national and European data protection:

  • Dr. Des Hogan, Commissioner for Data Protection and Chairperson of the Irish Data Protection Commission
  • Meike Kamp, State Commissioner for Data Protection (Berlin)
  • Michael McGrath, EU Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection
  • Emily Keaney, Deputy Commissioner of Regulatory Policy, ICO
  • MdB Jeanne Dillschneider, Chairwoman, Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Saarland
  • Thomas Zerdick, Head of Unit "Supervision and Enforcement", European Data Protection Supervisor

“Knowledge transfer and exchange are key to addressing the increasing complexity of European data protection. We are delighted to open the Privacy Conference 2025 with an in-person event for the first time and to present participants with a first-class live programme,” says Anja Olsok, Managing Director of Bitkom Servicegesellschaft mbH.

Strategies, technologies and trends for future-proof data protection

Through a wide range of keynotes, workshops and panel discussions, this year’s Privacy Conference will focus on current regulatory developments – from the priorities of German and European supervisory authorities to the planned Employee Data Act and the question of how the GDPR could evolve in the age of AI.

Practical issues will also be addressed, including digital sovereignty in corporate communications as well as new guidelines and best practices. Future technologies are another focus: panels and talks will examine the intersections of artificial intelligence and the use of privacy-enhancing technologies, the regulation of children’s and employee data, as well as international data transfers.

On the first day of the conference, 10 September, the focus will be on national data protection perspectives, while the second day will provide international insights with contributions from the European Commission, the European Data Protection Board, national supervisory authorities and globally active companies.
